2016 Summer Math Splash THINK Challenge: By the Numbers

For most kids, summer is a great time for road trips, spending time with family and friends, or just enjoying a welcomed break from school. Unfortunately, the summer months may also add to the math achievement gap between low and high income students if the dreaded summer slide in mathematics is not countered with meaningful and engaging math maintenance.

This is not to say it can’t also be fun.

Proactive educators and math-minded parents can successfully keep their little mathletes on course with various interactive summer math activities and games, but it helps to have support.

Summer Math Splash THINK Challenge has been a favorite motivational tool of ours for years and we’ve been encouraged by student activity and parent involvement through the many distractions that come with summer break.

The goal of Summer Math Splash THINK Challenge is to help facilitate learning and encourage teachers, parents, and students to work as a team to beat the summer slide. Many students who participate actually improve their math skills over the summer by utilizing our live 1-on-1 teacher support and adaptive online learning platform, preparing them for the challenges that come with going back to school in the fall.

Making Math Matter

We know the importance of making the home-school connection and that establishing a strong foundation will further prepare students for the transition into the new school year. Along their journey through the summer program, students and parents alike are encouraged and rewarded for their hard work and dedication with $25 and $50 Amazon.com e-gift cards, helping families purchase what they need for back to school or treat themselves to something special.

The Big Kahuna Grand Prize

In order to be eligible for our grand prize, students must have completed and passed at least three math lessons each week over the eight weeks of summer. All winners are then randomly selected from a pool of eligible students. The Think Through Math “Big Kahuna” grand prize consists of a solar powered backpack, a Kindle Fire 7″ 8 GB Tablet, a TTM journal, pencils, and a t-shirt, which will be hand delivered by a Think Through Math representative to each winner’s school principal for pick up at the start of the school year.

National Big Kahuna Winner

Congratulations to our Big Kahuna Summer Math Splash National winner! Nahom and his family moved to the United States from Ethiopia in March. He completed his lessons over summer at home without being enrolled in a formal summer school program! His goal was to win so that he would have school supplies for the upcoming year.

We’d like to thank our teachers, parents, and students for your hard work.
You are all winners in our book!
