Beating The Summer Slide Texas Style!

Learning Math - Summer Math Program

The long, lazy days of summer are so 2010.  Knowing that the average child loses 1.8 months of math skills over the summer break and that it can take teachers 3 to 6 weeks of teaching to get it back is a big challenge.  But not at Think Through Math!  This summer, we challenged Texas 3-8 grade teachers, students and parents to beat the summer slide and pass at least 3 math lessons each week to come out on top.  Our goal was to have students return to school ready to hit the ground running and be in lock step with their teachers.

One young man did just that!  Neil S. from Green Elementary, Allen ISD logged in throughout the summer months and passed 67 math lessons.  He continued to work each week even though he never won a weekly award.  He had his eye on the big prize — a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and to be named a top student in Texas summer math contest.  Check out the hand-written note Neil wrote TTM telling us about his progress and how he stayed focused to beat the summer slide.  Way to go Neil!  We know you are ready to hit the ground running this school year!
