John (Jack) Martin is an independent consultant with a 30-year background as an executive and advisor in both the public and private sectors. Jack is passionate about supporting American education and empowering Think Through Learning’s mission to improve educational efficacy through innovative technology.

Jack has played a significant role in financings, partnerships, and transactions involving businesses defined by unique intellectual property, creative people, and remarkable growth. Jack joined Groove Networks in 1998 as its vice president of finance and administration. He advised Groove and its founder Ray Ozzie (who is now Microsoft’s Chief Software Architect) on its startup plan and early financing strategy, served as its CFO, and oversaw the financing and merger transactions between Groove and Microsoft, while simultaneously serving as a board member on two venture-funded clients.

Jack’s software industry involvement began at Lotus Development Corporation, where he served as the vice president of Finance before assuming finance and business development responsibilities for a newly formed Communication Products Division. Previously, Jack served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Courier Corporation, a publicly held printer and specialty publisher of trade, educational, and religious books. Jack completed and/or managed a large number of acquisitions, divestitures, and licensing transactions during his career that began as a certified public accountant and audit manager at Arthur Andersen. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
